Sensus Metering Systems Now Shipping the iCon Meter with Integrated TS2 Transceiver from Hunt Technologies

Sensus Metering Systems and Hunt Technologies are now in full production of the two-way TS2 power line carrier transceiver integrated with the award-winning iCon solid-state, single-phase residential meter. Orders are being taken for the recently available product, and manufacturing is under way. The TS2 solution offers constant, bi-directional power line carrier communication with all of the endpoints in a utilities’ system, and a flexible, cost-effective method of data collection.

This innovative solution takes full advantage of the iCon meter’s unique design by integrating the TS2 technology on the iCon display board. This eliminated the need for an additional board in the meter, offering customers a seamless product. The marriage of the iCon single-phase residential meter with Hunt Technologies’ TS2 transceiver combines the iCon meter’s superior accuracy with Hunt Technologies’ innovative and cost effective Ultra Narrow Bandwidth power line carrier technology. Through Hunt Technologies’ End Point Information & Control (EPIC®) Solution, each TS2 transceiver uses a unique frequency to enable every endpoint to transmit and receive data continuously.

The iCon meter with TS2 technology enables rapid access to detailed usage and peak demand data, time-of-use outage detection and restoration notification. The TS2 transceiver directly reads the iCon internal register and then performs metrology calculations, adding value to the TS2/iCon integrated solution. In addition, customers have ready access to historical usage and graphical usage profiles using the web browser-based Command Center™ application software.

“Working closely with Sensus during the product integration process was beneficial. It was a great opportunity for both organizations and we look forward to a continued successful relationship,” said Jeff Carkhuff, Hunt Technologies’ Product Life Cycle Manager. “The development cycle went smoothly, in part due to the iCon meter’s two-board design and open architecture. The integration of the TS2 transceiver with a quality, solid-state meter provides a great solution for the marketplace.”

“Our customers have been asking for TS2 compatibility with the iCon meter, and we were delighted to work with Hunt Technologies to deliver the solution in a matter of months,” says Doug McCall, Director, Marketing and Sales for Sensus Metering Systems. “We are pleased to be able to further expand the iCon product line to include a quality PLC solution from Hunt. We recognize the value of the TS2 technology, and look forward to a close and successful partnership.”
