Acting on the need to implement a system that can efficiently manage the growth of increasingly sophisticated meter data management requirements, Duquesne Light Company officials today announced the selection of a premier program provided by Sensus Metering Systems.
Duquesne Light is implementing Sensus’ SiMS™ Meter Data Management (MDM) system, to serve its more than half-million southwestern Pennsylvania customers.
SiMS is a Web-enabled, scalable meter data warehouse enterprise solution system. It is designed to expertly assist utilities that have multiple sources of meter data, and wish to integrate that range of data for complex decision analysis, reporting and presentation capabilities. SiMS supports all utility customer classes for energy, electric, gas and water. It can support data retrieval in a variety of intervals, such as 5-, 15-, and 30-minutes, or longer parameters, such as by the hour, day, week, or month.
“We have so many added requirements this year with hourly billing options for our large commercial and industrial customers and joining an RTO that we needed SiMS.” says Ruth DeLost, General Manager of Information Technology at Duquesne Light. “With all of the future demand side response programs and new pricing options that are being discussed in the market, we needed to invest in a system that could support our changing environment and that can easily grow with our needs”
Duquesne Light transfers meter interval data for all of their large commercial, industrial, and load-survey customers daily to SiMS. Because SiMS is an open-architecture data warehouse, Duquesne Light customers can experience immediate customer service support because they can view current meter data via the Internet.
Also, as a member of PJM Interconnection, LLC, a federally-regulated Regional Transmission Organization (RTO), Duquesne Light uses SiMS to perform the required network service peak load and the capacity contribution calculations that support the daily uploads and downloads between Duquesne Light and PJM and suppliers.
