American Gas Association

It was created in 1940 as a nonprofit, non-partisan organization. Demand Response and Smart Grid Coalition

The Association for Demand Response & Smart Grid (ADS) is a nonprofit organization, originally formed in 2004 as the Demand Response Coordinating Committee (DRCC).  ADS is an organization consisting of professionals and organizations involved in demand response and smart grid. It provides services to help its members in the conduct of their work and in the attainment of their personal, corporate and governmental objectives.  ADS seeks to establish and grow a demand response “community” of policymakers, utilities, system operators, technology companies, consumers and other stakeholders.

The DVGW (Deutscher Verein des Gas- und Wasserfaches e. V. – Technisch-wissenschaftlicher Verein – German Technical and Scientific Association for Gas and Water) has been providing technical and scientific support for the German gas and water industry since 1859. All the activities of the DVGW focus on safety, hygiene and environmental protection, taking efficiency and cost-effectiveness into consideration. As a technical standardization organization, the DVGW promotes technological development in its sector. The production, transportation, distribution and use of energy and drinking water always call for technical processes and plant. The technical standards of the DVGW lay the foundations for technical self-regulation under the responsibility of the German gas and water industry and ensure safe gas and water supplies at the highest international levels.

ESMIG drives the timely introduction of efficient and scalable consumer–friendly products and services fundamental to the participation of end-users in the smart energy and water systems of Europe’s future. Its activities are focused around systems for smart metering, consumer energy management, and safe and secure data transfer.

ESMIG works closely with EU policy makers and other EU associations to make Europe’s energy and water systems cleaner, reliable and more efficient, and the European consumer informed, empowered and engaged.

FREEDM Systems Center

FREEDM is an NSF-funded Engineering Research Center creating the Energy Internet: a network of distributed energy resources utilizing secure communications for intelligent power management enabled through advances in power electronics. Our research areas include power electronics, controls theory, solid-state transformers, fault isolation devices, and power systems simulation and demonstration. The Center is led by NC State University in partnership with ASU, FSU, Florida A&M and Missouri S&T. Our industry members benefit from research discoveries and relationships with faculty, but our most valuable “products” are highly skilled graduates with a systematic understanding of the electric grid.

National Rural Electric Cooperative Association

The National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA) is the national service organization for more than 900 not-for-profit rural electric cooperatives and public power districts providing retail electric service to more than 42 million consumers in 47 states and whose retail sales account for approximately 12 percent of total electricity sales in the United States. NRECA’s members include consumer-owned local distribution systems — the vast majority — and 66 generation and transmission (G&T) cooperatives that supply wholesale power to their distribution cooperative owner-members. Distribution and G&T cooperatives share an obligation to serve their members by providing safe, reliable and affordable electric service.
