Sensus FlexNet Products Gain Combo Market Presence

Providers in the water and gas utility industries are displaying rapid acceptance of Sensus Metering Systems’ FlexNet AMR system, resulting in the company’s increased presence in both markets. FlexNet is a radio-frequency AMR fixed network with one-way transmitter endpoints and is one of the Sensus AMR system solutions offered to the electric, gas and water utility markets in North America.

Sensus’ plan to offer utility providers with the newest, most accurate and most efficient equipment available is netting tangible results. Since launching its FlexNet AMR product line in late 2004, 16 water utilities throughout North America have selected the Sensus FlexNet system. More than 85,000 transmitters are contracted to be installed by the end of the year, according to company data.

In the combination utility market, Munford, Tennessee is the latest to contract with Sensus for a combined water-gas FlexNet system.

“We’ve wanted to upgrade from manual reads to an AMR system for a while, but took our time to research the best strategy. We concluded that Sensus’ FlexNet system will most improve operational efficiency,” said Munford City Manager, Neal Hunter. “With FlexNet, we will reduce meter reading time from 15 days to a one, and we eliminate mis-reads.”

“Other reasons for choosing FlexNet over other options included less fuel costs for manual or drive-by reads, faster billing cycles, and better use of staff, since fewer hands are needed for FlexNet reads,” Hunter explained.

Munford will deploy 7000 FlexNet gas transmitters and 4000 water transmitters, with installation to be completed by the middle of 2006. The Sensus FlexNet AMR system will remotely transmit gas and water readings back to the utility office on a daily basis providing necessary data while enhancing efficiency within the utility.

“We believe the City of Munford will significantly benefit from using FlexNet for its water and gas accounts, and we think other combination utilities will see the results and want the accuracy and efficiency that the Sensus FlexNet system provides,” said Tom Galuska, Sensus AMR Marketing Manager for Water. “FlexNet is gaining momentum in the market because utility leaders realize our system offers them comprehensive AMR coverage of their utility service territory with minimal fixed network infrastructure, higher reliability and accuracy that keeps them productive and profitable.”
